Roger Dubuis excels in creating ostentatious wrist watches, and the Excalibur Quatuor series with its very eye-catching design has been a source of inspiration for ANCHAN, in particular the Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt model That watch literally sparkled into the artist’s eyes as a rare piece of technological advance, being the first wrist watch in the world with four tourbillons, but also the first one using a high-performance alloy: the cobalt chrome. Complexity, innovative design, perfectly balanced movement, as many elements that resonate with the artist’s approach on designing a new artwork.
For ANCHAN, balance is perfection, his distinctive artistic style is all about details and balance, and this artwork took him over 200 hours of precise and focused efforts to complete. And as always in his intricate creations, there is more to this piece than meets the eye, only through thorough examination of the thousands of lines (preferably with a magnifying glass) will the audience notice all the words and expressions seemingly invisible that add another layer of surprise. To name a few, “audacity”, “technicity”, “RD101” which is the movement that powers the original watch, or the catchphrase used by Roger Dubuis: “Dare to be rare”.
Usually created in monochrome, made of a gradation going from black to white, this piece is the first in ANCHAN’s watch series to use color, this one displays vibrant yet subtle touches of red directly referring to the original model design.
